Overall Score

76 / 100

Highest Focus

91 at 13s

Focus peaks on the green "THIS AUTUMN" card. It is a single message with nothing competing for the eye, and it arrives right after a run of held-back, close-framed shots. A plain card invites the viewer to read, and reading keeps the mind in one place. The timing points to simplicity, rather than spectacle, as the driver.

Lowest Focus

22 at 31s

Focus eases as the oversized 3D lettering moves across the screen and resolves into "PUBSCRIPTION". The letters travel before they become readable, which likely sends the eye roaming before it settles. This looks like a natural feature of the reveal. The name is the asset the film most needs to land, and the viewer takes a moment to piece it together.

Highest Clarity

95 at 13s

Clarity peaks on the same card. After an opening built on tight faces and unexplained props, "THIS AUTUMN" is the first thing the film states plainly. The score likely reflects that sense of arrival.

Lowest Clarity

55 at 45s

Clarity is at its lowest as the film returns to the two men leaning forward, then cuts to a busy venue. What they are reacting to is not shown. This is a clarity moment rather than an attention one: the shot is lively, but it links less directly to the browsing the viewer has just seen. In proportion, 55 is the lowest point of an ad that averages 83.

Highest Attention

90 at 31s

Attention peaks at the moment focus eases. The glossy, moving 3D type is the most visually novel element in the film, and it resolves into the campaign name. The two metrics are doing different jobs here. The eye is drawn by movement and texture while the mind is still assembling the word.

Lowest Attention

17 at 13s

The same card that produces peak focus and clarity produces the lowest attention. Centred white text on flat green gives the eye little to explore. A frame can be easy to read and hold the mind while offering less to look at.

Summary

Heineken shoots the pub like a streaming drama, then reveals that the show is the night out.

The film opens on glossy green type and tight, warmly lit close-ups of serious faces. Green cards interrupt: "GET READY TO EXPERIENCE", "THE ORIGINAL ENTERTAINMENT". Only at "PUBS" does the setting become the subject. Most beer advertising puts the drink or the group of friends in the first frame. Heineken holds both back and borrows the grammar of a trailer.

The choice follows from the campaign's premise. Per the launch release, Pubscription was ideated by LePub with Amazon Ads' Brand Innovation Lab, and it applies streaming-style discovery to going out. Users browse participating pubs by "genre", subscribe free through an age-gated Fire TV app, and redeem a weekly voucher on their phone. The film therefore stages the pub as content to be browsed. "BROWSE PUBS BY GENRE" and "TAKE YOUR PICK" are not decorative lines, they are the product's actual interface language. The brand's own pitch is that discovering where to go should be as easy as discovering what to watch, and the film makes that comparison without stating it.

The ad closes on "TURN NIGHTS IN INTO NIGHTS OUT" and an offer of four Heinekens a month. The viewer is meant to remember one reversal: the thing that usually keeps people at home becomes the reason to leave.

Emotional Insights

Positive reads 68.5 and happy 61.2, against negative at 12.8. The Decode summary describes a move from dark brand graphics to warm pub scenes with smiling, toasting and cheering people, and the profile follows that arc.

Surprise at 34.8 is the notable second signal. It fits the structure: the cinematic opening sets a question and the "PUBS" and "PUBSCRIPTION" reveals answer it. The surprise is doing useful work, creating a pattern interrupt without tipping into discomfort.

Neutral is relatively high at 41.3, which suggests a meaningful share of the film is processed cognitively, most likely the text cards and interface demonstration. Fear (7.4) is the largest negative reading and is better read as tension from the serious close-ups than as distress. Sadness (5.8), anger (4.6), contempt (3.9) and disgust (3.7) are very small.

The tone suits a brand built around social connection. One consideration is that the positive response may be broad rather than deep, which is consistent with engagement sitting below benchmark.

Suggestion for Improvement

Introduce the Pubscription idea a little earlier. Attention (49) and engagement (59) sit below benchmark, and the name does not appear until around 31s. A faster route to the core proposition could lift involvement while keeping the cinematic setup.

Make the offer more explicit. The release describes a free subscription, a weekly voucher and a Heineken 0.0 option. The film's copy does not yet mention these, and the asterisk is not legible in this version. "Subscribe now" can read as a cost to the viewer, so a clear "free" would help. It would also answer how the service differs from simply choosing a pub: the answer is a free drink.

Add a little movement to the 13s card. Focus and clarity peak there, while attention is at 17. Subtle motion or a glimpse of the pub behind the text could keep the clarity and bring the eye along with it.

Help the 3D reveal resolve a little sooner. Focus eases to 22 at 31s as the lettering resolves. Shortening the travel before the word forms could keep the attention peak and ease the pull on focus.

Give the final crowd scene a clearer anchor. Clarity is lowest around 45s, where reaction shots and a busy venue do not show what people are responding to. One identifiable payoff, such as a group toast, would connect the interface to the night out it promises.

Decode Takeaway

The ad's strongest asset is clarity: an unusual, cinematic premise is understood well above benchmark, and the emotional response is positive and happy. The attention and engagement scores, which sit a little below benchmark, suggest the film invites viewers to wait for its payoff, and its most concrete benefit, a free weekly drink, could be stated more directly. Making the idea more immediate and the offer more explicit would help turn easy comprehension into stronger involvement.
